One Door Closes - Another Opens
It's hard to believe that it was fourteen years ago this month, the name "SLATE" was first offered as the moniker for a group that has arguably become the largest, most dynamic, and well-respected groups not only in the Blackboard Community, but also a driving force in the LMS community in general. When I started this group, there were eight institutions, represented by 12 individuals at the first meeting. Those numbers have grown to over 200 and almost 700 respectively. I had always looked for opportunities to move the group forward, both in an effort to strengthen its reputation and to bolster the adoption and support of technology in education. Any group must continue to provide new and innovative resources to its community and look for new ways to further sustain it - or else the interest will dwindle and the commitment become non-existent among its members. I am proud of the level and amount of success that has been achieved during this time and the impact this community has made in the teaching and learning space. But after very careful thought and a lot of soul searching, I decided to step down as Executive Director of SLATE. It was not an easy decision to walk away from something that you have built and nurtured for so long, and dedicated your heart and soul to for the past fourteen years. However, there is still a lot of work to be done in this area, and a few more things that I would like to accomplish. So, with that said, I am starting this new venture: ENCORE Solutions in Education, that I am very excited about. I invite you to take a look and share your thoughts and reactions. I hope you will continue to give me the support and encouragement I will need to make this as successful as in the past. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
